Environmental Manager

The ROCKWOOL Group’s main business area is building insulation. Stone wool Insulation provides thermal protection along with fire safety and acoustical comfort for all types of buildings, so that you can spend time with your family having the peace of mind of a safe and energy efficient home.

This is the role:

  • Manage the E&E Department, ensuring that adequate resources are provided for achieving the department objectives whilst within budgeted levels
  • Ensure that each member of the department knows their role and their contribution to achieving the company strategy through regular communications, development of team members and PDRs to review goals
  • Ensure the organisation is kept informed of risks and change from external factors
  • Ensure full compliance with the PPC and EUETS Permits and other relevant legislation and guidance using control plans for site emissions and environmental impact assessments for noise, flora, odour and any other measurement of environmental impact
  • Ensure all reports are checked and submitted to Natural Resources Wales before the specified deadlines
  • Provide an advisory service on environmental and some health and safety issues
  • Analyse results using statistical tools and report on trends
  • Refer to Public Records for Rockwool and competitor information
  • Establish control plans for occupational hygiene measurements as requested by the Health & Safety Manager using HSE recommended test methods
  • Follow up in a professional manner on EUETS targets/requirements
  • Highlight any issues that might jeopardise RW-GB’s position within the EUETS system
  • Develop a Factory system to benchmark Energy Performance and use this as a tool for continuous Energy improvement using ROPEX as a means of introduction to the Factory workforce
  • Responsible for Trading on the Registry
  • Maintain ISO14001 and develop ISO50001 accreditation (as Management Representative)
  • Maintain an up to date register of environmental legislation Maintain an up to date register of environmental aspects and impacts
  • Plan and carry out internal audits against the requirements of ISO14001 and 50001
  • Identification and provision of any environmental or energy training needs
  • Preparing a report for Management Review with proposed targets, objectives and plan
  • Ensure reports are provided for daily, weekly, monthly and annual environmental, energy, bacteria and other routine reports as required
  • Responsible for the authorisation of routine reports to Natural Resources Wales as specified in the Permit
  • Responsible for the annual submission of carbon dioxide emission values to the Environment Agency under EUETS Responsible for the annual submission of Waste Packaging data to the Environment Agency
  • Ensure the provision and accuracy of technical reports where necessary and approve before release
  • Support to Sales and Marketing/PR with provision of relevant environmental and energy information
  • To attend RI Environmental and Energy meetings as required Provide a primary point of contact for Natural Resources Wales and local residents
  • Provide a primary point of contact with BSi for ISO 14001 assessments and Lucideon CICS for ISO 50001
  • Provide a primary point of contact and an audit function on suppliers’ environmental performance
  • Perform the role of co-auditor during RI SHE audits of other factories
  • Arrange visits and tasks by consultants and contractors as appropriate
  • Act as the main point of contact for Natural Resources Wales, Bridgend Country Borough Council and local residents in regards to environment & energy issues
  • Act as the main point of contact with customers for environmental queries as appropriate Act as the main point of contact and an audit function on suppliers’ environmental performance
  • Liaise with Rockwool International and other OPCOs when necessary Arrange visits and tasks by consultants and contractors as appropriate  
  • Act as the main point of contact for contractors who deal with environmental issues such as waste management, CEMs equipment and any environmental projects

Qualification to degree level would be desirable but knowledge and experience necessary to perform the role can be attained through learning and experience at work. The job holder must have detailed specific knowledge related to the role especially concerning:

  • Environmental legislation
  • Energy legislation
  • ISO Management Systems Standards ISO14001 and 50001for Environment and Energy
  • Practical implementation of risk assessments
  • Management skills
  • Communication and training skills
