Mechanical engineer for cooling water systems

03 October 2019

Our purpose is simple and compelling: To release the natural power of stone to enrich modern living.

ROCKWOOL products save energy and water and reduce CO2 emissions, protect buildings from the spread of fire; reduce waste; improve acoustic comfort, building performance and aesthetics; and enhance Precision Growing, thereby improving the efficiency of fresh food production.

While the stone we use may be millions of years old, what we do with it is cutting-edge. Every day, ROCKWOOL colleagues are developing and applying new technologies to release yet more potential of stone wool to enrich modern life.

Would you also be proud to enrich society like we do? Apply now to join us as we improve modern living conditions for millions of people worldwide.

Join us and strengthen our competences within electric melting plants by taking on a key position as designer of the process critical cooling water systems.

Here, you will play a central role in setting the standards of our future furnace cooling concept which will secure a sustainable production platform with high attention on operational safety.

In ROCKWOOL Group Technology, we design and implement the production facilities the ROCKWOOL Group needs – which currently counts app. 30 factories worldwide. Much of our equipment and solutions are patented and this means we hold the knowhow and competences in house. This is only possible by having a dedicated and skilled engineering function, which you will be a part of.

This is who we are
In ROCKWOOL, we have laid out ambitious goals for reducing our own CO2 footprint and water consumption – and to succeed in reaching our goals we will change our melting technology to electrical furnaces and change the cooling concept too. The department Group Technology, Electrical Melting has been established recently with the aim of building up the competences to exchange the melting technology of the group.

This is the role
We have already started the engineering of the furnace, but we need you to take a leading role in designing the cooling water systems to ensure a both safe and sustainable operation of the furnace. You will follow the projects all the way from design, tendering of the parts, installation and commissioning taking back the learnings to be utilised in the next project.

On a daily basis, your tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Preparing P&I diagrams
  • Calculation of heat balance
  • Dimension and specification of valves, pumps and instrumentation
  • Prepare tender material
  • Supervise installations

This is what you offer
In order to succeed in this position, you bring:

  • An Engineering degree – probably you are specialized within fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
  • Experience from a similar position designing water cooling systems, including dimensioning or specification of pipes, heat exchangers, pumps, and dry coolers
  • A structured approach to your work
  • High standards for your own contributions as well as for the people you cooperate with
  • Curiosity about learning and you are happy to share your knowledge with colleagues
  • Motivated to take a project from early design phase to hand over and aftercare

This is what we offer
The job offers plenty of possibilities for both professional and personal growth for the right candidate as well as good times when the success is secured together with dedicated colleges. We are in a phase where we are still exploring the possibilities of the new furnace technology, which gives the right candidate excellent possibilities for high degree of influence on the choice of standard solution, which will be used in many projects in the years to come. We have 61 nationalities in the Rockwool Group and you will have first class possibilities for developing your interpersonal skills and cultural understanding when your solutions are being implemented in our factories.

We greatly value our unique culture.  As a company, we are based on strong Danish engineering traditions, and we are known to pull together to deliver something that truly creates a difference.

We trust our teams to use their skills and experience – and to rely on each other to get the best possible solutions. While you will work together with other engineers, you will be the specialist in this area, and we expect you to be willing to share your knowledge across teams and departments.

Your daily place of work will be in Hedehusene, but due to the location of our factories and cooperation with suppliers you must expect 50 – 80 traveling days per year, depending on the phase of the project.

If you are interested in this fantastic opportunity please do not hesitate to submit your application. The deadline is 27th of October. In case of questions, please contact Group Technology, Department Manager GTE, Palle Yde Poulsen directly on telephone: +45 41 50 87 55
