Health and Safety Specialist Job Summary

At ROCKWOOL, health and safety is integral to our core values. ROCKWOOL is committed to creating and sustaining a safer workplace through behavioural based safety (BBS) and consistent campaigns that drive a safety culture as in integral part of our global goals, mission, and core values. The Health and Safety Specialist is the key driver of moving this commitment into motion having the responsibility for BBS initiatives as well as rapid response to incidents, near misses and our ROCKWOOL “Good Catch” program so that incidents can be prevented before they happen. The Health and Safety Specialist is relied upon as the knowledge expert to provide overall guidance and support to operations personnel to ensure overall understanding of performing their tasks that are critical to keep the plant in compliance to prevent disease or injury to our most valuable asset…our employees!  

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a Health and Safety Specialist?

  • Ensure adherence to regulations on health and safety in the workplace as well as ensuring that the facility remains in full compliance with all OSHA provisions (Federal, State and Local) and ROCKWOOL standards.
  • Perform safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that plant operations remain in compliance with new laws and regulations through continuing education, networking, and newsletters issued by the industry or other relevant organizations.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining all internal Fire Protection Programs and maintaining compliance with Property Insurance Company requirements.
  • Responsible for managing the external Security Company that is hired to manage the access gate at the factory entrance.
  • Responsible for managing the Incident Investigation process in conjunction with plant Operations.
  • Inspires employees in such a way that they contribute to continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Weekly reporting of Health and Safety Key Performance Figures (KPI’s).
  • Manage the site Safety Committee and the Behavior Based Safety Program initiatives.

What skills and qualifications do you need for the role of an Health and Safety Specialist?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience managing behavioral based health and safety programs in a continuous flow manufacturing or industrial environment and with automated equipment required.
  • Knowledge expert of OSHA rules and regulations in general industry.
  • Act as a ROCKWOOL ambassador demonstrating our core values of Ambition, Integrity, Responsibility and Efficiency.

    • Computer knowledge and skills;

The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk, hear, and smell.  The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the work environment consists of an indoor, work or home office environment with good ventilation, adequate lighting, and low noise levels. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may also be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and work space restrictions.
