POSITION: HR MANAGER

The ROCKWOOL Group’s main business area is building insulation, providing thermal comfort along with fire safety and acoustical comfort for all types of buildings.

This is the Role:

This position reports directly to the Canada Country Lead.  Reporting to this position is the HR Administrator, GRF. The HR Manager will provide human resources management services to all salaried and hourly employees at the factory in Grand Forks. You will also manage yourself in keeping with the Rockwool Group values.

Main Job Tasks

Labour Relations

  • Participate in, coordinate and document the collective bargaining process.
  • Participate in and document all meetings between management and the union.
  • Maintain seniority, incumbent and posting lists.
  • Attend all grievance meetings.  Present accurate and up-to-date records of circumstances relating to the grievance and the employee’s work history and performance record.
  • Provide support and assistance to management in all union matters from initiation to conclusion (grievances, arbitration, bargaining, etc.).

    Policies & Procedures

  • Manage policy and procedure system within the factory for direct and indirect employees in compliance with corporate policies.  Provide input to new policies from Corporate.
  • Ensure all new and existing policies comply with legislation and the collective agreement in place.
  • With the Factory Management team, coach managers to ensure consistency in the application of policies and procedures and the interpretation of the collective agreement.

    Wage & Salary Administration

  • Monitor local hourly wage information and provide current information for the collective agreement negotiations.
  • Assist factory manager with position descriptions, annual performance reviews and the salary review process.

    Benefits Administration

  • Provide benefits information to factory employees, salaried and hourly.
  • Administer employee RRSP program and arrange for plant visits from the financial services representative semi-annually
  • Arrange for reimbursements relating to employee programs (tuition reimbursement, hybrid car program, fitness, etc.).

    Claims Management

  • Claims Management activities for all short and long term disability claims to minimize duration and resulting cost impact.
  • With H&S Manager, coordinate a Return to Work program for any workplace injury.  Arrange return to work programs for short term disability or long term disability claims, where practicable.

    Recruitment

  • Source and identify candidates for factory employment consideration as requested.
  • Manage job postings as per the CBA
  • Arrange and participate in interviews with hiring manager.
  • Coach hiring managers to ensure compliance with legislation relevant during interview process.
  • Coordinate pre-employment testing as required.
  • Develop, update and facilitate new employee orientation, both direct and indirect.
  • Investigate sources for direct recruitment and participate in career fairs when required.

    Employee Development and Retention

  • Provide assistance in identifying internal candidates for career advancement.
  • Identify courses, seminars and educational materials to facilitate specific skills upgrading for direct employees.
  • Investigate sources of government funding for employment, employee training etc.
  • Document all factory training and assist in the delivery of internal training programs as required.
  • Legislative Compliance

  • Remain current with all relevant employment legislation.
  • Keep management apprised of changes to all relevant employment legislation.

    Communication

  • Update material presented on the CCTV screens in the factory (where applicable).
  • Participate as required in Communication meetings
  • General

  • Prepare weekly manning schedule.
  • Manage all vacation and leaves of absence.
  • Coordinate annual attendance / safety / service awards.
  • Drive the Performance Management program for indirect employees and ensure on-time completion of goal-setting, mid-term and year-end review process.
  • Drive Performance Management and/or evaluations for direct employees through the Supervisors
  • Coordinate and provide input into Succession Management round-table review process on an annual basis.

This is what you offer:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in an HR leadership role
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including: compensation, recruitment, employee relations, diversity, performance management, benefit programs, and employment law
  • Experience and knowledge of HR systems, Workday experience a plus
  • People oriented and results driven
  • Ability to build and manage working relationships at all levels of the company
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law & HR best practices
  • BS degree in Human Resource Management or related field or equivalent work experience
  • CHRP certification a plus
  • Travel: Some out-of-area travel will be expected with the possibility of some out-of-country travel
