Building tomorrow's cities today

Renovating buildings to reduce energy demand is a key tool to combat climate change.

Every building is a chapter in the story that is your city.

Much of the story has been written, but how you write the next chapter is crucial.

Today, buildings consume 30% of the world’s ever-dwindling energy supplies - buildings that were built before energy efficiency became an important part of the plot.

More than 50% of the buildings standing today will still be in use in 2050, making renovation a crucial part of the next chapter.

It is time for us to write sustainability into our cities’ stories.

New report

Renovating buildings to reduce energy demand is a key tool to combat climate change. One of the rare areas where the co-benefits by far outweigh the investments is energy efficiency improvements in buildings.

Today we have a wide range of technical solutions and extensive experience from individual projects around the world hence we now need to focus on how to scale renovation activities to match the urgency of combatting climate change. In a new report, developed in cooperation with Copenhagen Economics, we present our recommendation for actions.
